Thursday 26 March 2020 - Lockdown Day One

That heading sounds intense, but nothing actually feels different. I was working downstairs today and I did feel like I was hearing less traffic going past, but that could have been because I started quite early.

I read something by a psychologist saying that we should be preventing our younger kids from hearing or watching the news. That we should become their source of information. The idea is that, to minimise their anxiety, their parents answer the questions they have (honestly) but don't allow them to hear and see all kinds of other information that could lead them to panic. What this has meant, in practice, is that I am not as informed as once I was. Used to rely on Radio NZ news of a morning, but we don't do that any more. No more TV news either. Need to make sure I make time to read a few news stories each day.

Miss9 told me this am that she doesn't want to go to school today. I told her she was in luck - that no one had to go to school today because all schools in NZ were closed. Then she said "No, I don't want to go to Mummy and Daddy school." Oh. Guess we're doing a bang-up job then.

TeenSon has obviously decided to cope with the lockdown by interacting with us as little as possible. We sat down as a family to watch a movie tonight and he was gone before ten minutes had passed. More parenting points.

I have a cough. Came out of the blue this afternoon and I've been hacking away on and off. Am I worried? No. I feel fine. No fever, no other symptoms. But clearly it will have to be Husband that does the grocery shop tomorrow am as I can't go out sounding like this. Could be burned at the stake.

Meme of the day:
